Mangaluru, Oct 2 : Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, here celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October, 2021 in remembrance of our beloved Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The celebration commenced with the “All Faith Prayer” followed by a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji as well as Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, one of the former Prime Ministers of our Country, on their birthdays.

Students of Class IV and V through their virtual programme, inspired everyone on the values practiced by our great leader Mahatma Gandhi through speech, song and dance. A short skit highlighting the value of time advocated by Mahatma Gandhi in his words and ways, and spreading the message of realizing the value of time and utilizing it effectively we will not only achieve our goals to the utmost personal satisfaction, but can also contribute to the advancement and development of our society and country.

Sr Carissima, the administrator of the school in her message conveyed to all the students and staff to imbibe the spirit of truth and non-violence, that is connectivity with God and respect and love for human beings which will help all to do their best for the Nation, so that our Nation will be a place where we can live without fear and our spirits will go higher towards progress, development, peace and harmony.

“Any place, any space, but run” keeping this mantra in mind, the school also organised “Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav - Fit India Freedom Run 2.0” after the Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations. The objective of conducting Fit India Freedom Run is to be free of obesity, stress, laziness, anxiety which has become an integral part of one’s life during this ongoing Covid pandemic. Principal, Sr. Melissa kick started the Run with the flag off. It was a crowd of 71 staff members and 50 NCC cadets covering a distance of 1.8 km around the vicinity of Maryhill where the school is located, indeed an enthusiastic healthy run. Students being at home due to the pandemic, some of them took part in the run from their homes.

They also went on a Shramadhan drive, in and out of the school campus, while rest of the students along with their parents cleaned their homes and surroundings, a fitting tribute indeed to Mahatma Gandhi, the icon of Swatch Bharath propagated by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji.

Prior to this day, competitions were organized for the students of Nursery to class XII on themes dear to Mahatma Gandhi and the students took part in them creatively and enthusiastically.
