Puttur, April 25 : St Philomena College observed ‘World Earth Day’ with an awareness program organized by the Botany and Zoology Departments of the College on 24 April 2024 at the Spandana Seminar Hall. The event, chaired by the college principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, emphasized the fundamental role of education in safeguarding our planet for future generations.

Addressing the students, Dr Monteiro highlighted the pressing need to fight natural calamities stemming from deforestation and environmental degradation. “As educated individuals, we bear the responsibility to understand how human activities impact Earth and its inhabitants. It is binding upon us to strive for a greener world and ensure environmental health,” he stressed.

Dr Malini K, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and IQAC Coordinator, enlightened students on climate change, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and the significance of environmental education. The event also featured the distribution of prizes to winners of competitions held for B.Sc. students.

Sanmati N and her team renderd prayer, a warm welcome was extended by Riya Sushmita D'Souza. Shravya RS conducted the prize distribution, Tressa Celestia P V proposed a vote of thanks and Pratiksha G compered the program. Assistant Professors Smita Vivek Alva and Shri Raksha BV coordinated the proceedings. Students from B.Sc. Program participated in the event.
