Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Our body and mind are not separate, so it's not surprising that mental ill health can affect one's body. Depression can come with headaches, fatigue and digestive problems, and anxiety can create an upset stomach, for example. Other symptoms can include insomnia, restlessness and difficulty in concentrating. Without treatment, the consequences of mental illness for the individual and society are staggering. Untreated mental health conditions can result in unnecessary disability, unemployment, substance abuse, homelessness, inappropriate incarceration, suicide, and poor quality of life.

Some general tips for maintaining mental well-being include regular exercise, adequate sleep, healthy eating, social connections, stress management techniques, and seeking support when needed. It's crucial to consult with a mental health professional for personalized guidance.
