Puttur, April 29, 2024 : The Annual Special Camp of the National Service Scheme, St Philomena College, Puttur, was inaugurated at D.K Higher Primary School, Biliyur on April 28. This seven-day camp, running from April 28 to May 4, 2024, is themed “Youth for Science and Scientific Temperament,” under the broader slogan “Youth for Empowered India.”

The ceremony was presided over by the Principal of the College, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro. In his address, he emphasized the commitment of the college to quality education, evidenced by its three ‘A’ Grade accreditations from the National Assessment and Grading Organization (NAAC) and the recent ISO 9001:2015 certification. “Just as an athlete’s success is founded on hard work, our students learn the value of effort through such engaging activities. It is in these settings that the purity of heart and the essence of being good human beings are fostered,” Dr Monteiro remarked.

The inaugural function included the traditional lighting of the lamp. Mrs Nalini, the chairman of the School Betterment committee, expressed her happiness over the choice of Biliyur School for the camp and recalled the successful organization of past camps by the college students in the area. She extended her wishes for a successful camp this year as well.

Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar M highlighted the role of NSS in holistic student development. Mr Thaniyappa Poojari, a member of the Gram Panchayat and guest of honour, recalled his childhood and expressed his joy over the college selecting their village for the camp.

Mrs Sheela Diana Moras, the headmistress of the host school, spoke about the potential impact of the camp on NSS volunteers, school students, and the villagers, aiming to make it an unforgettable experience.

Madhushri and team rendered prayer. NSS Program Officers Mr Vasudeva N welcomed along with introductory remarks, and Mrs Pushpa N proposed a vote of thanks. Third-year Degree student Vaishnavi K compered the event. Asst professors Mr Dhanya PT and Ms Chaitra, the co-camp officers, Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, Head of Business Administration Department, and Mr Abhishek Suvarna, Assistant Professor, Mr Ponnappa, an alumnus of the college were present among others.

The camp will feature a flag hoisting each morning and will close daily with a reflection of the day’s activity. Dr Anupama KS from Ayurveda Clinic, Kemmai, will serve as the medical officer at the camp. Various local organizations and community groups will participate, ensuring a collaborative and community-focused camp environment.

The college community, including the student body, the parents- teachers’ association, and the senior students’ association will extend their full cooperation for the success of this annual special camp.
