Mangaluru, Feb 4 : The Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research at St Philomena College observed National Voters’ Day by organizing a Pledge Ceremony in the PG seminar hall on January 25, 2024. This program aimed to foster a sense of civic duty and responsibility among the students, reminding them of the integral role they play in shaping the democratic future of the nation.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal administered the Voters’ Day Pledge to the students. During his address, he emphasized the significance of casting a vote responsibly, stating that a right vote to the right person contributes to the formation of a judicious government. He emphasized the constitutional responsibility conferred upon every individual, particularly those who have attained the age of 18, urging them to exercise their right to vote.

Mrs Pratibha K, Assistant Professor in the Department of MSW, delivered insights into the importance of the day, shedding light on the history of Voters' Day. She underscored the purpose of the day, which is to instil a sense of constitutional duty among the students. Mrs Pratibha K further emphasized that voting is merely the initial step in our civic journey, and National Voters’ Day serves as a reminder that our responsibility exceeds the confines of the polling booth. It involves staying well-informed, holding elected representatives accountable, and actively engaging in the democratic process.

The Vice Principal of the College, Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar graced the occasion with his presence. Shreeraga and team rendered a prayer. Dr Basthyam Pais, the coordinator of the Electoral Literacy Club and electoral Nodal Officer of the College extended a warm welcome and also compered the program. SDA Arun Rebello proposed vote of thanks.
