Mangaluru, Feb 7 : The conclusion of the novena honouring St Anthony of Padua for the annual relic feast was commemorated at St Anthony Shrine within Milagres Church in Mangaluru on February 7, 2024.

The Eucharistic Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr Johnson Dsouza, Assistant Parish Priest of Urwa Parish along with Rev. Fr J B Crasta the Director and Fr Gilbert Dsouza, Chaplain and Fr Nelson Peris, assistant director of St Anthony Charitable Institutions in Jeppu.

Fr Johnson delivered a powerful sermon on the significance of Luke 22:17-20, emphasising Jesus' profound act of love during the Passover meal with his disciples. He challenged congregants to reflect on the sacrificial nature of Christ's covenant and encouraged them to embody this love in their lives.

Passionately, Fr Johnson declared, "Life without the Eucharist is nothing," underscoring the central importance of the sacrament in the Christian faith. He emphasized the spiritual nourishment and sustenance that the Eucharist provides to believers, urging the congregation to cherish and partake in this sacred ritual as a cornerstone of their spiritual journey.

Reflecting on Jesus' selfless act of giving, Fr Johnson further encouraged the faithful to emulate His example by generously sharing our blessings with others, fostering a spirit of generosity and selflessness in our daily lives.

Following the Mass, Fr Nelson Peris led the novena, with special prayers for the priests, religious and vocations. Apostolic Carmel Sisters added a melodious dimension to the Eucharistic celebration.
