There is a “can” in Cancer because we can beat it

World Rose Day is annually celebrated on September 22 in dedication to the welfare of cancer patients. On this day, people around the world work towards bringing cheer and hope into the lives of all those people who have been affected by cancer. More importantly, it seeks to remind patients and their caregivers that they are not alone in this battle against the deadly disease.

Cancer treatments are quite tasking on the body and mind of those who have been affected. With the changes their bodies encounter and the sheer mental trauma of being ravaged by this disease can wreak havoc with most people. Having cancer can undermine one’s mental and physical wellbeing. But by making even the simplest gestures of kindness, each and every one of us can bring some comfort to their lives. Even though that alone is not enough to cure them, it can certainly ease their suffering.

The term ‘Rose ‘is doubly significant: first it is the remembrance of the brave heart Melinda Rose, who was diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive blood cancer, Askin’s Tumour when she was 12, she took it very positively and even began to spread messages of hope and cheer in whatever way she could. And second, the literal meaning of the rose as a flower. Rose stands for love. World Rose Day stands for spreading positivity around the disease reminding people to support cancer fighters and survivors. Organisations hold special drives for spreading awareness and make people realize the importance of love and care.

As we recognize this important day St Agnes school took the initiative to make a creative approach by showing affection, WE ARE WITH YOU. A virtual programme was organised depicting the importance, significance, words of motive, posters and the testimony of the survivors from our very own parent Mrs Belveera Dsouza and student Ms. Anvitha D Shetty who were the victims of this deadly disease and are the living souls of inspiration. A visit to Ave Maria Palliative Care Vamanjoor Mangaluru was organised on this occasion and participated by our school Administrator Sr Edna Furtado AC, our Principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC, Coordinator Sr Sweedal AC and teachers Shalet and Daphne to bring a smile on the face of these patients offered them roses and fruits as a sign of care , they sang some hymns and prayed for their good health and families. Dr Lavina M. Noronha the director of this care centre accompanied her team and showed around the centre. A cash contribution on behalf of Management and school was given to them for their good service along with the teachers who added their generosity.

On World Rose Day, take out time for cancer patients and spread love and cheer in their lives. Let them know that you care for them.
