Mangaluru, Feb 12 : In memory of the Founder Principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya , Dr. Olinda Pereira ‘CENTRE FOR LEADERSHIP AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT’ a Trust, was inaugurated on the Institute day February 2, 2021 by the Chief Guest Mr. Isaac Vas, President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The former students of Dr. Olinda Pereira and the founder Trustees Mr. S. N. Gopinath, Mr. Bhima Rao and Mr. Ravichandra Bekal, Dr. Rita Noronha, Professor Emeritus, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya; Mr Dheeraj Shetty , President, Roshni Alumni Association, Mangaluru Chapter ; Ms Philomena D’sa , Provincial of the DHM, India Province South; Ms Veeda Sequeira, President Institute of Social Service; Ms Evelyn Benis, Secretary , Institute of Social Service; Dr . Juliet C.J, Principal, School of Social Work and Dr Jenis Mary P, Vice Principal were present on the dais.

Ms Veeda Sequeira, President Institute of Social service welcomed the gathering.

Mr. Isaac Vas in his inaugural address, appreciated the active involvement of Roshni Nilaya in social development. Speaking about leadership he stressed the need of quality oriented leadership in our region to ensure holistic development and good governance. Highlighting the need for collaboration to create synergy he further stated, that the purpose of School of Social Work and Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry is complementary to each other , as the former caters to Human Resource Training and later is involved in Entrepreneurial Development.

The Trustees Mr. S. N Gopinath and Mr. Bhima Rao spoke about the objectives and the Vision of the Trust and said that the Trust would foster the initiatives and ideals practiced by Dr. Olinda Pereira and promote value based leadership in the society. The Trust would also encourage and undertake action oriented Social Research and Publications as well as Social Development programmes and activities such as Gender Diversity and Empowerment, helping the needy and deserving, being the voice of the voiceless, care of the Elderly and other areas that Dr. Olinda Pereira believed in.

Prof. Rita Noronha, Professor Emeritus, appreciated the Roshni Alumni Association for initiating this trust with a Noble cause. She stressed a need for transformative leadership that inspires and promotes new leaders.

Ms. Philomena D'Sa in her Presidential address called upon the social workers and students for practicing commitment, determination and deep conviction as it was practiced by Dr. Olinda Pereira and congratulated the Alumni for being thoughtful in initiating a Trust in memory of Dr. Olinda Pereira.

Ms. Philomena D’sa, Ms. Veeda Sequeira and Dr Juliet C.J unveiled the photograph of Maria Paiva Couceiro - the pioneer of DHM and Mr. Gopinath, Mr. Bhima Rao and Mr. Ravichandra Bekal unveiled the photograph of Dr. Olinda Periera.

Dr. Jenis Mary briefed about the souvenir which was released by the Chief Guest Mr. Isaac Vas in memory of Dr. Olinda Periera.

Ms Veeda Sequeira, President Institute of Social service welcomed the gathering. Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, President, Roshni Alumni Association, Mangalore Chapter introduced the chief guest. Mr. Ravichandra Bekal delivered the vote of thanks. Asst Professors Shalini Prabhu and Liyana Mary Joseph compered the event.
