Mangaluru, Oct 31 : National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ektha Diwas is celebrated on 31st October every year since 2014 to mark the birth anniversary of Iron Man of India - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This year marks the 144th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter and an ace politician. Sardar Patel played a major role in the integration of India (Ek Bharat) from over 560 princely states. To acknowledge his efforts in uniting the nation, India celebrates National Unity Day on his birth anniversary.

Mount Carmel Central School celebrated the “National Unity Day" on 31st October 2020. The celebration commenced by invoking God's blessings. The essence of the day was highlighted by a meaningful cultural program by the teachers. Sardar Vallababhai Patel, an icon for National Unity was fondly remembered. His vision for the Nation was articulated by the teachers taking a pledge striving towards "Ektha". Teacher Pavithra spoke of the man who played a crucial role in the unification of India - Sardar Vallabhai Patel, popularly known as the "Iron Man of India". The teachers dressed in traditional attire of different States of India did a cultural ramp walk, to spread the message of unity in diversity. Teacher Suma Saji compeered the programme. The short yet significant programme etched the spirit of "Ektha" amongst all.
