Mangaluru, Aug 10, 2018 : The inaugural function of the one-day state level intercollegiate Economics fest ‘Econovanza 2018’ organized by the department of Economics was held on August 7 at Eric Mathias Hall.

Hanumantharaya IPS, DCP of the city was chief guest. Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, principal of the college presided over the programme. Fr Melwyn Mendonca SJ, principal, St Aloysius pre-university college was chief guest of the valedictory function held in the afternoon. Cine artiste, Arjun Kapikad was guest of honour.

DCP Hanumantharaya said that St Aloysius College is the only college having the best students from all over India. He applauded the college for taking up good initiatives and advised the students to do well. Being an Agricultural Economics student, he said that Economics is very essential for the people. As a police officer, he can see the happenings in society. He motivated the students to think about their career. Basic education is necessary but in today’s competitive world, students should go beyond that. Sustainability is the most important thing and youth should be actively involved in environmental activities. He urged the students to save mother earth. Besides this, he also said that Economics is the strength of the nation. Economics is the study of how societies use scarce resources to produce valuable commodities and distribute them among different people. He urged the students not to be victims of drugs and avoid involving in useless activities. He suggested that students read books rather than wasting time on mobiles and join activities like NCC and NSS and do good to society.

Principal, Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, in his presidential remarks said that students should develop a justice-oriented life. He advised the students to think differently and to do things differently so as to build a fair society. He wished all the students to do well and make the best use of this fest.

Dr Norbert Lobo, convenor of the fest, assistant co-ordinators, Alwyn Misquith and Reji John, student co-ordinator, Sohan Alva and secretary, Judith Koutsu were present on the dais. Registrar, Dr A M Narahari, finance officer, Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ were also present.

Alwyn Misquith welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest.

Karuna Lobo compered the programme while Judith Koutsu proposed the vote of thanks.
