Puttur, Apr 7, 2019 : St Philomena College Puttur is one of the premier institutions of higher education and has proved to be a milestone in the field of academic excellence. It is affiliated to Mangalore University and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at ‘A’ Grade with a CGPA of 3.19 on a four point scale in the 3rd cycle. At present, the College does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in six UG programmes and seven PG programmes to a rewarding educational experience.

The College was established in 1958 and has achieved many credentials during its six decades of service. During the academic year 2018-19, the students secured eight ranks at UG level and one rank at the PG level from Mangalore University. In B Com, Josvita Lorraine Lobo has secured first rank with 95.82 percent and Joshila Marita Menezes has secured seventh rank with 93.78 percent of marks.

In BSc, Anarghya S has secured fifth rank with 96.14 percent, Anusha D’Souza has secured sixth rank with 96.12 percent and Shruthi U has bagged tenth rank with 95.24 percent of marks. In BCA, Preethi Rao has bagged third rank with 94.46 percent of marks. In BSW, Jeevan D’Souza has secured first rank with 83.94 percent and Joel Monteiro has bagged second rank with 83.5 percent of marks.

In PG studies in Economics, Shwethalatha has bagged First rank with CGPA 7.71 out of total Semester Credits 80. Shwethalatha is also eligible to receive ‘Girisham’ Gold Medal, Lobo Prabhu S. R. Aphonse Prize in Economics and PVS. Memorial Cash Prize during the 37th Annual Convocation of Mangalore University.

Vipin Cyriac, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Physics, Sindhu D G of Second Year MSc in Physics, Ramyashri of First year MSc in Physics, Shabana P of Second Year MA in Economics have successfully passed in KSET conducted by University of Mysore.

Dr Emmanuel Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of PG Department of Physics has been awarded with research grant under VGST programme ‘VGST Research Grants for Scientists Faculty (RGS/F) 2017-18. This grant is given to him by considering his research work in Non Linear Optics. He is one among four Physicists from Karnataka to receive this prestigious recognition.

Sujith S of First Year MSc Physics has been selected for Science Academies' Summer Research Fellowship Programme for Students and Teachers-2019 to work under the guidance of Dr V Ganeshan, Professor and Center Incharge, UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Indore.

Vinay D R of Second Year BSc got selected for Summer Research Fellowship of Indian Academy of Sciences. He will do the project in National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar on High Energy Physics.

Pavitra of First year BZC had received the prestigious fellowship on Project Oriented Biology Education and Research of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Studies and Research (JANSCAR). She will receive Rs. 10,000/- per month for three years and then higher study and research opportunities at the Centre itself.

Savitha of Second year BSc got selected for Summer Research Fellowship of Indian Academy Sciences. She will take up the project in ISRO Bengaluru under the guidance of Scientist Dr K Sankarasubramanian.

Akshatha K N of MSc Physics (2016-18 Batch) scored highest marks in Electronics- a specialization paper at the Mangalore University level. She is eligible to receive the Nobel Laureate CV Raman Prize, Dr S N Bose Prize, Dr Homi Bhabha Prize and NSRP-7 Prize in the Annual Convocation of Mangalore University.

All the Post Graduate Departments of the College have recorded 100 percent results in the semester examinations of the Mangalore University during this academic year and brought laurels to the institution.
