Mangaluru, Nov 13 A seminar was organised for the primary school teachers on the topic ‘Creative teaching methodology and improving language skills’. Prof Maria D’Costa who is presently running UXCEL , was the resource person of the day.

Prof Maria very delicately brought out the aspect of recharging of teachers and its importance by reading out the first few lines from Gitanjali written by Rabindranath Tagore. ‘ Thou hast made me endless; such is thy pleasure. This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again and fullest it ever with fresh life.’ She stressed out the importance of letting the child in every teacher live happily, youthfully and positively.

After an ice breaking action song session, Prof Maria brought about the main points of the seminar - Problems faced by a primary teacher in class and the steps followed by teachers to control the class when it goes out of control.
The teachers were asked to share their special qualities as a teacher to boost their morale. Prof Maria gave a few tips from her end to help the teachers feel much more confident in handling their classes. Teachers should be well informed, ongoing learners, voracious readers, loving and caring, humble, fair to all students, able to take corrections from students etc. were a few important points shared by her. To make the children love coming to school every teacher should give the student the importance they need, make the students come forward in their respective classrooms and showcase their talents etc., were a few points beautifully explained by Prof D’Costa by giving real life classroom examples.

Prof Maria explained the difference in the usage of ‘Tell’ and ‘Say’ to all the teachers present in a very simple way too. The session ended with another lively action song giving each teacher the importance of God in every person’s life. The teachers found the session very fruitful and enjoyable too.
