Mangaluru, Oct 9 : The PG Department of English, Centre for PG Studies and Research, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized a session on, “Life as a woman IPS Officer'' with Manjari Jaruhar, the first woman IPS Officer from Bihar as the Guest Speaker on 7 October 2023. The session began with Dr Zubaida H, Associate Professor, Department of English and the convener of the session extending a warm welcome to the distinguished speaker and the gathering. Sr Vinora AC, Coordinator, St Agnes PG Centre, offered a welcome plant to the resource person.

Ms Manjari Jaruhar provided a glimpse into her life changing experience at the National Police Academy. She said that the training regime in the academy was rigorous but her disciplined upbringing from childhood helped her in that environment. She also conveyed the importance of knowing one’s job thoroughly and being passionate about it. She emphasized that the significance of a position lies not on the chair but in the person occupying it. And sometimes, you have to go beyond your duty to help the public. She said that the ‘Khaki’ looks glamorous but it definitely comes with a lot of responsibilities.

In the session, she drew attention to her recently published memoir; “Madam Sir” which is dedicated to every woman who believes that they will find a way to be unfettered if they put their minds to it. She asked women not to copy men but to embrace and enjoy different roles. Acknowledging that gender discrimination persists, she advised women to strive and move ahead in life and concluded by saying that humility, mental integrity and ability were virtues that are important but that character enhanced success.

The session was a remarkable opportunity to delve into the life and experiences of a woman who has blazed a trail of courage and dedication in the field of law enforcement. She addressed questions from the audience who found this session to be extremely insightful.
