Melbourne, May 10, 2024 : The Melbourne Konkan community (MKC) recently hosted its much-anticipated Flavours of Mangalore Dinner Dance, and what a night it was! Held at the Sacred Heart School Hall in Oakleigh on Saturday, May 4, the event was a vibrant celebration of Mangalorean culture, cuisine, and camaraderie.

After the resounding success of last year's event, the MKC committee decided to introduce a Mangalorean buffet for this year's Dinner Dance, and it was an instant hit! The spread featured a mouthwatering array of traditional dishes such as Idlis, Kori Rotti, Chicken Sukka, Beef Chilly, Bafat Style Pork, Chana Tendli Beetroot Salad, and the delectable Vorn for dessert, leaving guests craving for more with every bite.

Tickets for the event sold out quickly, with over 300 people packing the venue to indulge in the tantalizing food and enjoy the lively entertainment. The Phoenix Band set the stage on fire with their energetic performances, while the DJ kept the crowd grooving with Bollywood mixes throughout the night. From jive to hip-hop to Bollywood hits, there was music to suit every taste, and the Baila rendition by the Kudla Boys added an extra dose of excitement to the evening.

What truly warmed their hearts was seeing people of all ages, from tweens to teens to parents, hitting the dance floor and revelling in the joy of the moment. It's moments like these that embody the essence of MKC - bringing people together to create unforgettable memories and celebrate their shared culture.

One guest beautifully summed it up, saying, "You can take a Mangi out of Mangalore, but you can't take Mangalore out of a Mangi." This sentiment perfectly captures the spirit of their community and the deep connection they have to their roots.

They owe a huge thank you to their incredible caterers, Phillip and Valerie, for serving up such delicious fare and helping them showcase the authentic flavors of Mangalore. Their dedication and culinary expertise truly elevated the dining experience for everyone.

At MKC, their mission is to provide a common space for people to come together, connect, and forge lasting bonds. They are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of their sponsors and the love they receive from the Mangalorean community in Melbourne. With a record-breaking 252 memberships this year, they are stronger than ever, and they invite everyone, regardless of background, to join them in celebrating their culture and heritage.

Here's to many more unforgettable moments and cherished memories with MKC!
