Melbourne, Feb 10 : Women form the backbone of our society and their contribution to our society is immense but there is no word to label how great their contribution is. A woman resembles soft focus, romantic words, passion, smile, love, eternity. A ‘Mother’ has always been the most beautiful word in the English language according to various worldwide surveys that represents an image of comfort and of home and hearth.

Women’s Wellbeing Day was observed on Saturday , 4th of February 2023 in Jamieson Way Community Centre in Point Cook in Melbourne’s West from 01.00 to 05.00 p.m. under the banner of Melbourne Konkan Community (MKC) where a large number of women of Mangalorean origin attended to unwind themselves. It was the Association’s first event of the year, a casual day of meeting people and getting to know each other, having fun with the games and other activities, enjoying some delicious food and drinks and giving an ear to the ladies who aspired and made it big.

At the outset, an ice breaker game was conducted where the women gathered, introduced themselves and got to know each other. Tongue twisters and fun activities for the spot prizes followed where the females enthusiastically participated.

Two of our own who have made it BIG attended the gathering – Mira D’Silva and Sandra D’Souza. In the interactive session, they were asked five questions which they answered admirably. They described how they learnt from their mistakes, rising from their failures and attaining success in their respective ventures in a male-dominated society. The former, a Liberal party candidate in the last Australian federal elections narrated her journey from a businesswoman and her plunge into politics. She added, she always had that inbuilt desire to do something for the larger community; the latter who had a good job in the aviation sector recounted the shift she made to her career by setting up a small business to cater to the people of special needs, to bring smiles on their faces. The women were all ears to them, getting motivated knowing that anything can be achieved by sheer perseverance and hard work.

The women were divided into 4 teams for a fun and frolic session of games which they enjoyed to the hilt. The females young and elderly swayed to the amazing music forgetting all their burdens. It proved that age is just a number with the youngest at 22 and the oldest at 76 having a delightful afternoon.

The Wyndham city Councillor, Sahana Ramesh, a person of Indian origin who hails from Bengaluru attended the gathering. She was facilitated by a bouquet by the Organisers. Speaking on the occasion, she appreciated the efforts of the Association to have such a wonderful gathering especially for the women. She extended all assistance from the Council for future events.
Delicious food and drinks were served on the occasion.

Sheba D’Souza compered the gathering admirably from the commencement to the end.

It was the first Women’s wellbeing day that the Association had organised since its inception. Due to its grand success, calls are already being heard that it should be a permanent annual event in MKC’s calendar.
