Byndoor, Jan 2 : The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of Holy Cross parish here, celebrated their silver jubilee on Wednesday January 1, 2013.

Holy Cross parish priest and spiritual director of ICYM Fr Ronald Miranda presided the programme.

Holy Cross former parish priest Fr Clifford Gonsalves who founded ICYM unit in the parish 25 years ago was the chief guest of the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Clifford recalled the memories of ICYM members who strived to get electricity connections and water supply in a few areas. He also congratulated them for their mite of service to humanity.

Meanwhile, ICYM office bearers honored Fr Clifford on the same occasion.

Udupi diocesan ICYM director Fr Edwin D’Souza was the guest of honor.

Fr Edwin commended the leadership qualities of Byndoor parish ICYM unit who are actively participating in training workshops and have set an example for other units in the diocese.

Kundapur deanery ICYM director Fr Pascal Menezes said that ICYM members need proper guidance as they are susceptible to dangers of youth.

Fr Ronald Miranda in his presidential address urged the ICYM members to be well disciplined and maintain good character.

The prizes were distributed to the winners of sports, making Christmas star and crib during the programme.

The sponsors of this programme and all the former ICYM presidents were also honored at the same occasion.

A social and humorous “Ami Serve Yek” i.e. (We all are one), a Konkani play by playwright Bernard J D’Costa was staged by ICYM members as part of entertainment programme. The theme of the drama was to highlight the unity among all religions, cast or creed and the punch line was "we all are having same blood and hence, why act and treat differently" which signified the whole essence of the brotherly bond among all religions and directed all to live in this direction and help each other without bias.

When this drama was staged during All India level, rave reviews were received especially for the wonderful theme of the drama in the local news papers esp. in Udyawani Kannada daily of Coastal Karnataka.

On the occasion, the theater director Joseph Fernandes and the writer of this wonderful play were also honored.

Ronnie Byndoor composed the music for the play and was directed by Chandra Byndoor and did a wonderful job being a director.

Byndoor parish council vice president Daniel Nazareth, secretary Cecilia Rebeiro, ICYM animator Shanti Pereira were present.

Earlier, ICYM parish unit president Reuben Nazareth welcomed the gathering. The secretary Queenie Rebeiro presented the report highlighting various achievements of the ICYM during the last year. ICYM members presented a prayer song and welcome dance.

The treasurer Preetam Nazareth proposed vote of thanks. Divya Nazareth, Jyoti Nazareth and Joy Lobo compered the programme beautifully.
