Location :
St Francis Assisi church is situated in Nayanadu at a distance of 40 kms from Mangalore and 17 kms from B.C. Road and is surrounded by Venur, Nirkan, Madanthyar parishes.
History :
Prior to 1988, Nainad was a chapel under Sacred Heart parish, Madanthyar. The parish priest of Madanthyar Fr Denis D' Souza (1923 - 1942) opened school in Nainad. Nainad was declared an independent parish dedicated to St Francis Assisi in 1988.
Silver Jubilee celebration and inauguration of new church and grotto at Nainad :
The new church at Nainad, constructed in commemoration of the silver jubilee of St Francis Assisi Church was inaugurated and blessed by Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore on May 10, 2014.
The Bishop also inaugurated the new grotto. The inauguration was followed by the solemn Eucharistic celebration led by the Bishop and concelebrated by Fr James D’Souza, vicar vara, Belthangady deanery , parish priest Fr Fredrick Monteiro and many other priests from deanery and diocese.
The felicitation and the grand finale of the silver jubilee that followed after the Eucharistic celebration was also presided over by the Bishop.
B Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, ecology and environment was the guest of honour and Fr James D’Souza, vicar vara, Fr Fredrick Monteiro, parish priest and others were present.
