Gurpur - Kaikamba, Sep 26 : ICYM - PYC Gurpur, in collaboration with the Youth Commission, organized the Pompei Badminton Clash - an exciting interward badminton tournament for the parishioners of Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur Kaikamba. The event took place on September 24, 2023, at the Pompei School Ground. The primary objective of this sporting extravaganza was to create awareness among the youth about the importance of prohibiting the usage of drugs. Through the spirit of sportsmanship, participants were encouraged to champion a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with a total of 40 teams and 65 players from the parish enthusiastically participating across three competitive categories.

Tournament Results

Category I: Men's Doubles

  • Winners: Vijay Rasquinha and Marwin Lobo (Pompei B)
  • Runners-Up: Roylin Lobo and Nigel Peris (Kowdoor A)

Category II: Women's Doubles

  • Winners: Genevieve Peris and Sherin Menezes (Pompei B)
  • Runners-Up: Sonal Fernandes and Ashleen D’Silva (Pompei A)

Category-III: Mixed Doubles

  • Winners: Gavin Peris and Genevieve Peris(Pompei B)
  • Runners-Up: Vijay Rasquinha and Sherin Menezes (Pompei B)

Mr. Godwin Tauro, Animator of ICYM-PYC Gurpur and Secretary of the Youth Commission, and Vaibhav Rodrigues, PYC President, had the honor of jointly presenting the prizes to the deserving winners and finalists. The tournament was marked by intense competition and showcased not only the players' skills but also their unwavering determination. The Pompei Badminton Clash was a resounding success, with all participants demonstrating great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. It served as a shining example of the positive impact that sports can have on promoting important social causes. ICYM members extend their heartiest congratulations to all the champions and finalists and express their gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this event a grand success.

Venisha Saldanha was the Master of Ceremony for the Closing Ceremony.
