Mangaluru, Oct 18, 2023 : National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Milagres P.U College Mangaluru successfully organised a  7-day annual special camp from October 11 to October 17 at Nithyadar High school, Permanur, Ullal, Karnataka 575017.

Inauguration of the Camp : 

On October 11, the inauguration of the camp was held.

Mrs Vani V Alva  the commissioner of the municipal council , Ullal, was the inaugurator.  Rev Fr Bonaventure Nazareth the Correspondent Milagres Educational institutions, presided over the inaugural programme. Rev. Fr Antony Lasrado correspondent Nithyadar English Medium High School was the chief guest. Sr Pramila Rodrigues headmistress English Medium High School, John Monteiro Vice-President of Nithyadar church, Mr Melwin Vas Principal Milagres P.U College, Mr Kiran DSouza Lecturer & NSS programme Officer, Mr Siggi D Perumayan Lecturer in Physical Education and Teena Caroline DSilva , President ICYM Nithyadar Unit were present during the event.

Mrs Vani V Alva  the commissioner of the municipal council , Ullal, Mangaluru, inaugurated the NSS annual special Camp.  In her inaugural address she said the motto of an annual special camp, "Youth for the Clean Environment and Healthy Society" is a motivation for the youngsters to be environmentalists and to fight against the environmental pollution. She said all the programmes of the camp are connected with the motto of the camp.

Rev Fr Bonaventure Nazarath, correspondent, Milarges Educational Institutions, in his presidential address  gave an example of the dead which is also called the "sea of death" because there is no life in it, the service provides life to a person which is similar to the life in the freshwater that flows.  We should explore new things in life and let the water flow in different directions. That way our life will turn interesting and it will not turn out to be like the dead sea.

Fr Antony Lasrado was the Chief Guest, in his address, he clearly told about the functions of NSS as a part of academic activity. He added by saying that "everyone should promote the activities of NSS".

Principal Mr Melwin Vas, encouraged the students to take an active part in the NSS camp.

Mr Kiran Dsouza, Lecturer and NSS programme officer welcomed the gathering and Mohammed Shakib Khan, student leader of NSS proposed the vote of thanks. Swapnil, NSS volunteer compered the programme.

Highlights of the 7-day Annual Camp :   

During the 7 days of residential camp the volunteers rendered service (shramadhan), students participated in awareness programme and rally was led by Mrs. Lalitha K E who gave a inaugural talk, Awareness on Environmental change and protection by Sr. Pramila Rodigues , A talk on communication by Mr. Avinash Daniel Dsouza , Awareness on First Aid session by Mr. Sachet Suvarna,  Talk on the functions of Mass Media by Mr. Ahammed Bava, Interactive session on NSS & my Success by Mr. Sharon Pereira. 

Various programmes were organised for the  public and the camp participants created awareness about the protection of the environment by planting the saplings, cleanliness, awareness about Plastic pollution by picking up the plastic from Nithyadar High School to Thokkottu Bus Stand.

Valedictory of the Camp : 

In the valedictory function, Rev. Fr Antony Lasrado addressed the gathering with the valedictory speech and he said our life should be like a river which flows. Through service we can find purity of mind and heart which is found in the moving water of the river, we should not be stagnant like the water in the Dead Sea.

Fr Antony also added by saying students have worked very hard during the shramadhan and he remembered the services of all the people involved in making this NSS Camp successful.

The programme was presided by Mr. John Monteiro Vice President Nithyadar Church, Mr. Arun Dsouza Youth Congress member was the chief guest. Mr. Kiran Dsouza Lecturer & NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering and read the report of the 7-day annual special camp .  Rev. Fr Antony Lasrado, Mr. John Monteiro , Mr. Arun Dsouza, Mr. Siggi D Perumayan, who supported for the successful conduct of the camp were felicitated. NSS Student Leader Mr. Saqib Khan proposed vote of thanks. Various sports and cultural activities were held for children and prizes were distributed. As many as 50 volunteers were part of the camp.
