Karwar, Nov 12, 2010 : Most Holy Redeemer Church of Angadi in the diocese of Karwar celebrated its silver jubilee at Angadi here, recently.

Fr Peter Machado, the bishop of Belgaum, in his homily mentioned that the church is not a building but the faithful are the real church. All are called to play their role in building the church. We participate and partake in building of the body of Christ, the church when we collaborate with each other, he added.

Bishop of Karwar, Derek Fernandes, highlighted the meaning of the church and especially praised the services of the priests in the area. He congratulated the parish priest and religious sisters and the parishioners for the wonderful organization of the whole silver jubilee.

Fr Derek Fernandes together with Fr Peter Machado, diocesan vicar general Fr Simon Tellis and about fifty priests celebrated the mass. Several religious sisters and around a thousand people actively participated in the Eucharist.

The former bishop, parish priests and religious superiors who served at Angadi, were felicitated after the mass. The diocesan- head, bishop Derek Fernandes was honoured by the parish priest Fr Augustine Lobo. Fr Derek honoured Fr Peter Machado who also served at Angadi in 1980s.The former parish priests, Fr Michael pinto, Fr Thomas Misquith, Fr Marian Menezes, and the present parish priest, Fr Augustine Lobo, Sr Jacinta, representative for the congregation of St Joseph of Chambery and Sr Lynette were honoured by Fr Derek Fernandes.

Bishop Peter Machado honoured the sisters who served in the area, the local panchayat president, Gokulo Das, Taluk Panchayat member Arun Gurav, M G Naik and Sainath Naik.

Fr Simon Tellis released the parish silver jubilee Souvenir. Fr Derek Fernandes felicitated and honoured the generous donors Louis Coutinho, Alshan Gudinho, Benny Pereira, Michael Mascarenhas, Diago Mascarenhas and Juje Lopes. Kistod Pereira and David Rebello were honoured for collecting advertisements for the parish souvenir .

In memory of the silver jubilee the parish offered a cheque of Rs 25,000 to Fr Derek for the retired priests’ fund of Karwar diocesan.The Mother Teresa Band from Hadinbal gave a splendid tune while honouring the dignitaries. Nancy Pinto proposed the vote of thanks and Jujepaul compered the programme.
