Umsning, Meghalya, March 12 : BIRD - Bethany Institute of Resource Development Umsning celebrated VI Graduation day of Trainees of ‘’Skilling Youth Power’ (SYP) Programme on 1st March 2022. Shri Jason S Mawlong MLA of Umsning Constituency was the Chief Guest and Sr Shwetha BS Provincial Councilor of Guwahati Province, and Mr Benedict Syngkli Village Headman of Lumumpih, Umsning were the Guests of Honour. Sr Lilian DSH, Sr Mavis BS, Bah Nicky A Kharthangmaw were special invitees.

Chief Guest Shri Jason S Mawong MLA of Umsning constituency awarded the Certificates for the Basic Computer Course Trainees. He spoke highly of BIRD and its aims and objectives and expressed his great hope in this creative Institution that caters to the rural ‘left behind’ young people. He was appreciative of the Trainees’ good performance and sharing of their experiences.

Sr Shwetha BS Provincial Councilor and Mr Benedict Syngkli awarded certificates to the Tailoring and Dress Designing Trainees and encouraged them to do something significant in life by making right choices in their given circumstances. Fashion is the only thing that keeps changing, hence they have ample opportunities for making a difference in helping people dress well and up-to-date. It can be a lucrative market even in remote villages.

The Trainees hailed from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal. BIRD provided them with residential facilities and the courses at subsidized fees thanks to generous Donors. It’s a great experience for the Trainees who felt greatly empowered because of being in residence. Sisters together with other Resource persons were involved in their all-round empowerment process.

The Trainees performed a few items depicting North East culture which was well appreciated. They also shared their experiences of being at BIRD, especially, of the values they picked up for their life, the well-kept surroundings, the environment and the care they received from Sisters and Teachers. All of them expressed that if they have another chance to come over to BIRD they would gladly accept it.

Sr Hilda Paula the Administrator led the prayer followed by a prayer song by the Trainees. Sr Edleburgh BS the Director of BIRD welcomed and felicitated the Guests with ‘fullon gamochas’ and bouquets of flowers.
