Miao, July 19, 2022 : Excellence in education depends on quality of teaching and not on the remoteness of the location so prove the students in the remote corner of north eastern most corner of India in Arunachal Pradesh.

The ICSE results for class 10 were declared on 17th July and all the schools under Newman Educational Society (NES), the educational wing of Miao diocese, have recorded 100% pass results.

This is a remarkable feat considering all the difficulties and inconveniences the students and teachers face in this part of the country, says Father Shoby Simon, the secretary NES. “A total of 16 NES schools presented their candidates and all of them have achieved 100% success. It is a great moment of pride for all of us, the teachers, parents and the students”.

Total of 595 students appeared for the examination this year, 333 girls and 262 boys.

Congratulating the students and the teachers, Bishop George Pallipparambil, the patron of NES said, “My gentle reminder to all is that while we rejoice over the great result this year, let us not forget that those who passed this year are just beginning their real life. The batches that follow and those who have passed so far deserve our attention. That only will make education effective and transformative”.

Out of the total number of students who appeared, 393 pupils have secured first division and 202 second. Dhara Sharma and Ngunkhaw Wangsu from Don Bosco School, Galenja from Changlang district have secured 96% and 95% of the total marks and Rito Simai from Holy Rosary School, Changlang has scored 95%.

NES established its first school in a humble structure in Borduria village in June 1992. Since then it has contributed much to the improvement of literacy rate in Arunachal Pradesh. Back in 1990, it stood at 41% and now it has jumped to 59.94%. Much of the improvement is due to the intervention of the church, as it established schools almost in every remote corner of the State.

“Poverty has no religion, health care has no religion and illiteracy has no religion”, says Bishop George. “Our goal is to take education to the last, the least and the lost”.

NES has, as of this current academic year, 53 schools running in the last eight districts of the State with over 17000 students from the remote corners of Arunachal Pradesh. Some 750 teachers cater to the physical, spiritual and overall growth of these students.

Gone are the days when we used to worry about the education of our children. Thanks to the Church and NES, now quality education has walked into our doorstep, says Ngapnai Jamikham, a parent from Kanubari in Longding district. The good result this year is a testimony to this fact.
