Miao, March 9, 2021 : Women are the biggest miracle workers, said Bishop George Pallipparambil of Miao Diocese in Arunachal Pradesh to greet them on International Women’s Day (IWD) in Miao.

At a humble event to mark the IWD at Christ the Light Shrine, Miao, Bishop George hailed the women as the biggest and most frequent miracle workers. Wishing them happiness and blessings, he said, “You are a miracle worker. You change raw food materials into delicious food and you transform our houses into homes”.

Addressing the 150 women delegates from around Miao, he encouraged them to continue the positive role they play at home, in the society, Church, country and in the world at large. “You are miracle workers and also our unsung heroines, who go about making the world a better place to live in, without expecting anything in return”, he concluded.

Students of Light of the World School, Miao and Seminarians at Christ the Light Seminary performed cultural items at the felicitation programme held after the Holy Mass presided over by Bishop George.

Echoing the words of the Bishop, the Miao Diocesan Women Commission Secretary, Sr. Mary Sarkar said ‘Man builds building but woman transforms it into a home’.

The Miao Diocesan Women President Likro Mossang too spoke at the event. Highlighting the need for recognizing the contribution of women in the society, she said, “May all women feel free to dream, create, express and live their hearts’ deepest desire”.
Chief Guest Namrata Tiwary, the Extra Assistant Commissioner of Miao Sub-division highlighted the theme of IWD 2021. In the modern times we live in, it is time for the women to choose to challenge because a challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change, said.

At another IWD celebration at the Seva Kendra Aruanchal East (SKAE) training centre in Namphai, its Director, Sr. Sunita Parmar brought together its women Self Help Groups for a day of animation and motivation sessions. Addressing the 40 participants, the Carmelite Missionary Nun said, “Even in the 21st century women are treated as commodities and sex toys. This Women’s Day, let us choose to challenge this and make the world treat women as human, not as toys, as companions, not as slaves and as partners and not as subordinates”.

The Captain of 14th Rajput Regiment of Indian Army and his joined the celebration and distributed vitamin and calcium tablets to the women participants.

IWD was marked in Namsai, Itangar, Naharlagun, Nampong, Miao, Changlang, Khonsa, Kanubari, Khela and several other districts of Arunachal Pradesh with felicitation of women achievers and covid warriors with plantation and charity drives.
