Mangaluru, Dec 18 : Today, the world is changing at a rapid pace and the competition amongst children is at an all-time high. We have come to an age when only a degree and a handful of certificates are not enough to outshine the competition. Training in areas like communication skills and worldview development has become quintessential.

Keeping this in mind, Lourdes Central School organized co-scholastic activity for class XI students on ‘The Power of Communication and Social Skills’ on Friday, December 17, 2021. The resource persons comprised of Ms. Neetu Narayan –guest faculty at Nitte Institute of Communication and Ms. Basty Latha Shenoy – guest faculty at First Grade Government Degree College, Kavoor and currently a B.Ed intern from St Aloysius Institute of Education.

The programme began with the invocation of the Almighty’s blessings. Anshisha D’Souza from XI A hosted the programme and delivered a welcome speech. Principal Rev Fr Robert D’Souza addressed the students and highlighted the importance of soft skills in the ever-evolving world that we live in. He stressed the importance of looking beyond the syllabus to increase one’s horizon.

The session setoff with an ice-breaker activity wherein the students had to introduce their partner with two positive attributes and at least one attribute they would like to work upon. Mrs. Neetu Narayan began with a powerful quote “Every act of communication is a miracle of translation”, by Ken Liu. Different aspects of communication were covered under communication skills like – The four types of communication (Visual, Verbal, Written, and Non-Verbal). The final section of the programme explained the importance and role of social skills in shaping young minds and making them future-ready.

Every aspect was explained and demonstrated with the help of hands-on activity so that students learn the concepts in a better way. Allen Nazareth from XI C proposed the vote of thanks.
