Call to Fight Cancer with Hope

Mangaluru, July 13 : Sparsha awareness on Cancer and Covid-19 was organized at St.Thomas the Apostle Church, Ammembal on July 9, 2020. As people of the society consider Cancer as a deadly decease and think it is an end to life, therefore there is a need to educate people on Cancer and try to prevent this by accepting and practicing healthy lifestyle. SHG members from mudipu participated in this session organized by CODP and Caritas India.

Ms. Shilpa , took up a session on cancer and explained aboutcancer and its prevention . Cancer is a broad term. It describes the disease that results when cellular changes cause the uncontrolled growth and division of cell.

She spoke on the general situation of cancer in India, and also shared data of cancer cases in India which was published in the recent article. She also mentioned in Karnataka cancer cases are 20,084. Symptoms of cancer were told to the people and advise was also given to avoid Smoking, drinking, Junk food and practice healthy life style. Participants were encouraged to practice organic farming and one of the methods to implement organic farming could also be through jeans grow bags. Consuming organic fruits and vegetables could help a person to be healthy. Resource person spoke on the Government schemes which are available for treatment of cancer. One of the best way to prevent cancer is through regular checkup, because if this deceaseis detected and treated at an early stage then definetly it can be cured.

Another session was taken on COVID-19 by Ms Rita. As it is a prevailing pandemic, awareness was given to the people regarding social distancing , use of face masks and sanitizers and also avoiding social gatherings.

After the awareness sessions, Director of CODP Fr. Oswald Monteiro and Fr. Lawrence , Parish priest of Ammembal church addressed the gathering and shared their inputs on Health, and advised people to remain safe and not to loose faith in God. SHG members those who attended this session were given food kits through CODP.

Ms Rita thanked all who were gathered for this session and asked them not to neglect Health because that is the only asset for humans.
