Mangaluru, July 12 : St Mary's English higher primary school celebrated the annual Van Mahotsav day on 10th July 2023 in Mother Veronica Hall. Chief Guest for the day was Mrs. Priya Dcunha, an active member of the PTA. The event began by invoking God’s blessing through a brief prayer service. The programme was put up by the students of class 4A and 6A, Anchored by Master Mohammed Wahab and Miss Sarah Pinto. Master Mohammed Izaan of class 4A and Miss Thasna of class 6A gave an inspiring speech signifying the importance of trees for human beings. Several problems caused due to the loss of trees by various means such as deforestation, pollution and 3R’s – Reduce/ Reuse/ Recycle were highlighted through skit, song and dance drama.

Miss Rimsha Iqbal welcomed the Chief Guest, Headmistress and the gathering. To mark the day a sapling was planted by the chief guest and watered by the Headmistress, Assistant Headmistress, SPL and ASPL.

A meaningful cultural programme on Saving the Environment was presented by the students. Pledge led by Alvita was taken up by all the students to protect the environment and keep the earth green.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Mrs. Priya Dcunha expressed that God has created environment and human beings to stay in harmony with each other, but we ourselves have destroyed it. She also inspired to start drying the seeds of any fruits brought to their homes and to throw them in the barren land as they travel, so that many trees are grown. She also appreciated the efforts put up by the students in presenting a wonderful programme. Miss Adhya L K of class 4A proposed the vote of thanks. The programme came to an end with the message from the Headmistress Sr. Maisie and followed the School Anthem.
