Oct 18, 2025 : Just a month and a half after the canonizations of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, the Vatican is preparing once again for a historic moment. Pope Leo XIV will canonize seven new saints during a solemn Mass in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday — his second canonization since his election. The canonizations were previously approved by the late Pope Francis.
These four men and three women represent a diverse and global cross-section of the Catholic Church: missionaries, martyrs, laypeople, and religious, hailing from Papua New Guinea, Venezuela, Turkey, and Italy. Each of them walked a unique path to sainthood.
Among those to be canonized are Bartolo Longo, Sister Maria Troncatti, Sister Vincenza Maria Poloni, José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, Maria del Monte Carmelo Rendiles Martinez, Peter To Rot, and Ignazio Maloyan.
Pope Leo continues the legacy of his predecessors by canonizing saints who are examples of faith personified.
