Mangaluru, Feb 3 : The saying goes, “The cleanliness of the place we eat showcases the entire house and the character of its occupants”. This saying truly echoed with the inaugural and blessing of the renovated cafeteria on 2nd February 2022 at the Father Muller Charitable Institutions by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President of FMCI.

The cafeteria which houses the food preparation area, doctors and nurses tables and the dietary department was given a facelift under the leadership of the Director FMCI, Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho. The need for the renovation was felt due to the newer technology of food preparation, the increased quantity of food preparation, the need for specific areas for in-house staff and visiting guests. It also houses an eating area for the priest of the management.

The cafeteria built in 1979 served its purpose but lacked a few amenities. The roofing and ceiling was worn out and the pathways scratched due to the constant movement of trolleys.

The need more so ever was felt due to the increasing staff of the dietary department and an area to provide lunch and dinner to visiting guests and examiners of various colleges of FMCI. The whole process of the same was overseen by Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator of the Father Muller Medical College Hospital, who meticulously looked into the workings so as to have practical approaches to food preparation and the allocating of staff and faculty areas.

A small prayer ceremony was held with the priests of the governing board and management committee members also being present. The cafeteria in charge Sr Irene DSouza and her staff along with Mrs Sandis the chief dietician and team, spruced up the building for the inaugural and Mrs Veera DSouza welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa detailed the amenities and proposed the vote of thanks.
