Mangaluru,  Oct 18 : Family Commission of Infant Mary Parish, Bajjodi celebrated 'Day for the Elderly' with a theme ‘Young at Heart’ on Sunday, 16th October 2022. The day commenced with the celebration of Holy Eucharist at 9:15am wherein 89 Elders of the parish participated and gave thanks to Almighty God for His blessings. Rev. Fr Ivan Dsouza, Parish Priest celebrated the solemn mass. Rev Fr. Patrick Lobo preached an inspiring homily. There was a special prayer service and anointing for all the elders at the end of the Mass.

All the elderly then gathered at the church hall. The programme began with a short prayer by Fr. Ivan Dsouza. Mr Victor Pinto, the Convener of the Family Commission welcomed the gathering. He also welcomed the Resource Person Dr Joylene D'Almeida with a bouquet of flowers. Mrs Irene Pinto, Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council introduced the resource person Dr. Joylene D Almeida - Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore, to the gathering.  Dr. Almeida gave an informative talk on health related issues that the elders face in general and their remedies. She answered the queries of the elders. She was felicitated by Fr Ivan Dsouza with a token of appreciation.

Fr Ivan Dsouza and Fr Patrick Lobo addressed the elders with their messages. Choir members entertained them with a song. Few games were conducted wherein elders took active part and enjoyed their special day.  Prizes were distributed to the winners of various games. All were given gifts as a token of gratitude.        

Mr Prakash Saldanha, Vice President, Parish Pastoral Council proposed the Vote of Thanks. Mrs Jenifer Fernandes compered the event. The programme was followed by lunch  which was relished by all. It definitely was a memorable day that made it special for all those present.
