Mangaluru, Sep 3 : On August 24, 2025, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Mangalore South Deanery in collaboration with ICYM Mudipu Unit organized a one-day youth gathering, UDAAN-2025, themed “Taking flight with faith and friendship” at St. Joseph Vaz Shrine, Mudipu.

The day began with a spirited Gospel Band performance, followed by group activities led by Rev. Fr. Vikas Pereira, Director of the South Deanery. Mr. Jaison Dsouza, Karnataka Regional Representative from Fajir, shared his ICYM journey and its impact on him.

After a tea break, Dr. Paul Aquinas spoke on “ತಾಲೆಂತಾಂ ಆನಿ ಶಿಕ್ಪಾಕ್ ಪೂರಕ್ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತ್,” emphasizing nurturing talents and the role of education in youth development.

Fr. Ashwith Cardoza, Director Central, was among the dignitaries present. Mr. Vijoy Cardoza, President of Mangalore Diocese and other members of the Central Diocese Executive Committee were part of the delegation. Both Rev. Fr. Ashwith Cardoza and Mr. Vijoy Cardoza offered words of encouragement and motivation to the youth, inspiring them to continue their journey with faith and dedication.

Action songs by committee members energized the crowd, followed by a talk on the ICYM Handbook by Mr. Norbert Misquith about the organization’s values and vision.

A key moment was the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Vikas Pereira, with active participation from all units and choir led by ICYM Mudipu Unit. A delicious lunch followed.

The afternoon featured more action songs and group activities, including an artwork competition won by the Vijayadka Unit. Later Rev. Fr Cyprian Pinto, Vicar Forane made a visit and offered a motivating message to the youth, affirming their leadership and commitment within the deanery. The birthday celebration of Ms. Liza Roche, Lady Vice President of Mangalore South Deanery, added a joyful touch.

The concluding session included dignitaries on the dais: Rev. Fr. Assisi Rebello, Parish Priest of Mudipu Church; Rev. Fr. Sebastian, Assistant Parish Priest of Bola Church; Mr. Naveen DSouza, Vice President of Mudipu Parish; Mr. Santhosh DSouza, Secretary of Mudipu Parish; Mr. Leo, Animator of ICYM Mudipu Unit; Mr. Royston Robin Rodrigues, Editor of Amcho Yuvak & Deanery Representative; Rev. Fr Vikas Pereira, Director of ICYM South Deanery; Ms. Rishal Dsouza, President of ICYM South Deanery; and Mr. Clitus Sequeira, Secretary of ICYM South Deanery.

Ms. Rishal Dsouza delivered the welcome speech, followed by reflections from Rev. Fr. Assisi Rebello before the prize distribution. Winners honored were: Promo Video Competition – 1st Vijayadka Unit, 2nd Fajir Unit; Artwork Competition – Vijayadka Unit. Mr. Clitus Sequeira gave the vote of thanks.

Mr. Franklin Castelino expertly emceed the concluding session. The evening ended with lively performances by Holy Cross Band, Eliyarpadav, a Baila dance, and DJ, adding festive spirit.

With great enthusiasm and participation, UDAAN-2025 truly embodied “Taking flight with faith and friendship.”
