Kirem, Aug 27 : Konkani Manyata Divas is celebrated every year on August 20 to mark the historic day in 1992 when Konkani language was officially included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. This recognition gave Konkani the status of one of the official languages of India.
Konkani Manyata Day was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm on 24th August 2025 at Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem, under the leadership of Jyothi Stree Sanghatan and Catholic Sabha. The celebration began in the morning with the hoisting of the Konkani flag, symbolizing pride in our mother tongue and culture. In the evening, the programme commenced with a colourful wardwise procession of parishioners, adding a traditional and devotional touch to the event. The highlight of the procession was the participation of members from Stree Sanghatan and Catholic Sabha, who carried old Konkani traditional items and utensils, showcasing the rich heritage of our community. After the procession, the stage programme was held, which included speeches and cultural performances that highlighted the importance of Konkani language and culture. Mr. Stany Dsouza, a Konkani writer from parish spoke on the importance of the day.

This was followed by a series of cultural programmes, where parishioners of all ages enthusiastically took part, making the evening lively and memorable. Nearly 700 parishioners joined the celebration, reflecting the unity and love for our language. A special attraction of the event was the preparation of traditional Konkani food items, organized by the people under the leadership of the gurkars. These delicacies added flavor to the celebration and were enjoyed by all. The Konkani Manyata Day celebration at Our Lady of Remedies Church was indeed a meaningful and successful event, filled with devotion, culture, tradition, and togetherness.
