Moodbidri, April 30, 2025 — A solemn Requiem Mass was held at Corpus Christi Church for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis, the beloved head of the Universal Catholic Church, on April 29.
The Holy Eucharistic celebration at 4 pm was led by Rev. Fr Onil D’Souza, Vicar Forane of St Matthew Deanery, alongside other vicars from the deanery.
Following the Mass, a condolence meeting was organized at Samaja Mandir, Moodbidri, by St Matthew Deanery in collaboration with the Catholic Sabha.
The evening programme included floral tributes, heartfelt condolences messages, reflections on the Pope’s enduring legacy.
The interfaith gathering brought together leaders from various communities to pay tribute to the late Pontiff.

Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Trust, lauded Pope Francis for his humility and deep concern for the marginalized. He noted the Pope’s efforts to foster peace and his commitment to reaching out to people regardless of their status. “He mingled freely with the common people and provided exemplary leadership to the Catholic Church,” Dr Alva said.
Mr Abu Salam Puttige highlighted the Pope’s work in promoting interfaith harmony. He praised the Pope’s initiatives in conducting inter-religious meetings that bridged divides and fostered unity among different faiths.
Fr Onil D’Souza reflected on the Pope’s courage in setting aside traditional Papal protocols to connect with ordinary people. He emphasized the Pope’s message of mercy and called on the attendees to emulate his virtues.
Mr Rajesh Kadlakere compered the programme, while Mr Manohar Cutinha welcomed the gathering and Mr Alwyn Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
