Mangaluru, Nov 29 : "A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others”

Bidding farewell is the hardest part for any organisation. St Agnes CBSE School on 27th November 2021, witnessed the farewell ceremony of a great teacher who had given her 13 years of selfless service to the school. Mrs Mercedes Nazareth was a great teacher, compassionate, helpful, mentor and a good teacher to students. Her presence would be deeply missed.

The programme of farewell was arranged in Block II Hall at 11:30 Am. The dignitaries were Dr. Sr Lydia Fernandes AC the Joint Secretary of the institution, Sr Edna Furtado AC the School Administrator, Mrs Jane Saldanha President of SWC along with the members of SWC, Sr Maria Gracilda AC the Principal, Sr Marina D’Cunha AC the Vice-Principal and Sr Sweedal Fernandes AC the academic Coordinator. The star of the day Mrs Mercedes accompanied by her daughter Sabika Lobo.

The programme began with a meaningful prayer service led by the Carmel blossom students and teachers depicting the symbols of candle, hands, flowers and books coordinated by sister Sweedal. Sr Marina D’Cunha welcomed the gathering. The programme followed by a dance performance by students of grade VII with the theme ‘Teacher a giver of Life’ holding placards, grade IX students performed the mesmerising Sionara Japanese dance and enthralled the audience. The beautiful words of gratitude were expressed by student Afra Fathima of grade IX. Ishanvi of grade VI presented a Verse to the teacher. The students of grade X presented a farewell song through a video.

Teacher Nayana and Reshma shared their wonderful memories of working with teacher Mercy. Her zeal and dedication, teaching subject with passion was shared along with referring to her as a coconut which is hard outside soft inside. They wished her good luck for her new life.

The programme continued with the honouring ceremony of teacher Mercy for her years of service rendered to the school. She was honoured by the Management, teachers and on behalf of the parents Mrs Jane Saldanha did the honours. It was a grand moment to all.

The dignitaries in their speech poured in their gratitude to the teacher for dedicating her life in teaching the students, shaping them, moulding them, guiding them and wished her good luck to the new life she would be stepping into. In the end teacher Mercy poured her emotional thoughts and thanked everyone for the love and support.

The programme ended with teacher Keerthi proposing the Vote of thanks to each and every one for making the programme a great success. The programme was hosted by teacher Lavina. A beautiful backdrop gave a wonderful ambiance to the well-coordinated event of the day. The programme came to a closure with serving the fellowship meal.
