Mangaluru , March 23 : The Department of Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College conducted a guest lecture on 20th March 2021 in the Hospital Conference Hall. The lecture was on “Nutritional Problems in the Elderly” for which three guest speakers were invited from Yenepoya Medical College in the city.

The welcome speech was given by Dr Narayana V, Professor from the Department of Community Medicine and the organizing chairperson of this event. The first speaker was Dr Prabha Adhikari, Professor and Head of the Department of Geriatric Medicine who delivered a lecture on the nutritional issues faced by the elderly. Dr Prabha cited real-life examples and gave practical advice on diet for the elderly, thus driving home the importance of nutrition in the elderly. The second lecture on nutritional assessment tools was delivered by Dr Pracheth R, Associate Professor from the Department of Community Medicine. Dr Pracheth gave a detailed insight into the various nutritional assessment tools for the elderly that can be easily used in outpatient, inpatient and community settings.

Dr Abhijith Rao, Assistant Professor from the Department of Geriatric Medicine delivered an interesting and interactive session by giving case scenarios and encouraging the delegates to identify the problems and give solutions based on their experience, as well as the knowledge gained from the previous 2 sessions. The guest speakers were given mementos as a token of gratitude. The vote of thanks was given by Dr Anissa Mary Thomas, who was also the organizing secretary of the event. Overall, the sessions were engaging and informative and the delegates gave positive feedback. The Department of Community Medicine, FMMC would like to wholeheartedly thank the management of Father Muller Medical College for providing this opportunity and for their constant encouragement.
