Mangaluru, Mar 4 : The Fifth Comprehensive Exam Oriented Tutorials was organised by the Department of Anaesthesiology, Father Muller Medical College in association with Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists, Mangalore City Branch. The event took place on 22nd and 23rd February 2020, with participation by over 90 post graduate students and 40 resource faculty members from various medical institutes across Karnataka.

It commenced with a long and short case presentation on the following topics –

After the case discussions, the Inaugural ceremony was held at 10:30pm, presided by Rev. Fr. Richard Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institution. Dr Radhesh Hegde, Professor and HOD, Department of Anaesthesiology addressed the gathering and welcomed the Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, Father Muller Medical College and the esteemed guests, Dr Sanjeev Rai, Chief of Medical Research and Sr. Janet, Chief Nursing Officer, who inaugurated the event with the lighting of the lamp. Dr.Harshavardhan K., President ISA, Mangalore, highlighted the contents of the e-souvenir which was unveiled during the inaugural ceremony. The event ended with the Vote of thanks which was delivered by Dr. Ananth Srikrishna Somayaji, Organising Secretary CEOT 2020 after which the sessions resumed.

Day 1 included three faculty sessions – ‘How to prepare a patient for anaesthesia’, by Dr Manjunath Prabhu, Professor and HOD, Department of Anaesthesiology, KMC Manipal, and an interactive session on ‘Anaesthesia Machine’ by Dr. Gurumurthy T., Associate Professor, FMMC followed by an interactive session on BLS and ACLS by Dr. Shailaja S, Associate Professor and Dr. Rithesh D’Cunha, Assistant Professor, FMMC.

The second day began with an interactive breakfast session wherein students were presented with an opportunity to have a one-on-one discussion with the faculty to clear doubts and allay exam related anxiety. Following this, the case presentations commenced.

The morning session ended at 1:30pm after which there was a lunch break and the presentations resumed at 2:00 pm.

Day 2 had another interactive session by Dr. Gurumurthy T. on ‘Breathing Circuits’.

Game based learning was also incorporated in CEOT 2020 using Kahoot!, an interface where multiple choice quizzes were conducted for covering topics such as ABG, ECG, History of Anaesthesia and Chest X-rays. The sessions were moderated by Dr Manjula Rao, Senior Resident, FMMC and the delegates actively participated in the Kahoot! Sessions.

Sessions of Day 2 ended as per schedule by 5:15 pm. The program ended with a Valedictory function where prizes were awarded to the best case presentations.

For the long case presentation, best case award was bagged by KMC Mangalore and Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore. The award for best short case presentation was shared by Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore and KVG Medical College, Sullia.

The response to CEOT 2020 was assessed with an online survey using Kahoot! which showed positive feedback from all the delegates. Overall, it was found to be very informative and the students were exposed to real examination case scenarios which served as a confidence booster for all the post graduates, particularly those appearing for the exams.
