Moodbidri, Aug 15 : "May the Sun in his course visit no land more free, more happy, more lovely than this our country" — Sardar Bhagat Singh

"Freedom is in our hearts and in our hands. Let us salute the flag, honour the past, and dream of the future."

This year, Carmel school marked the 79th year of India’s independence with pride, gratitude, and vibrant celebrations. The occasion was observed through two memorable events — a cultural celebration on 14 August 2025 and the official Independence Day ceremony on 15 August 2025.

The cultural celebration on 14 August filled the school auditorium with colour, music, and patriotic spirit. Our chief guest, Captain Suresha J. Shetty, an Army Personnel, brought an air of honour to the occasion. The programme, compered with poise by Ayush Nitin Anchan and Rachel Pinto of Grade 8B, began with a creative prayer service led by Sir Prajwal and the students of Grade 8B, seeking divine blessings for our nation.

The students of Grade 8A presented a graceful welcome dance, followed by a warm welcome speech by Anvitha Riya D’Souza and Delisha Maria Fernandes of Grade 8B. The hall then echoed with the voices of students singing patriotic songs under the guidance of Sir Prajwal. Manushree of Grade 8A spoke with conviction about the significance of Independence Day, after which the students of Grades 8A and 8B performed a dynamic dance drama portraying patriotism and national unity.

Captain Suresha J. Shetty addressed the gathering with heartfelt words on the meaning of true patriotism, the importance of unity, and the responsibility of youth in shaping the nation’s future. The celebration ended with a sincere vote of thanks by Cleon Tauro of Grade 8A, and the singing of the National Anthem that filled every heart with reverence.

The official Independence Day celebration on 15 August 2025 began on the school campus with a striking display of discipline and pride — a triumphant March Past by the students of Carmel School, Holy Rosary High School, and Holy Rosary PU College. The national flag was then hoisted high in the sky, fluttering proudly as a symbol of our freedom.

The chief guest for the day was Sir Winston Joyel Sequeira, joined by guests of honour — PTA member Mr. Shanthram, Joint Secretary Sr. Elena AC, Principal of Carmel School Sr. Lilly Pushpa AC, Coordinator of Play School Sr. Archana AC, Principal of PU College Mrs. Rama, and Headmistress of High School Sr. Sunitha Monteiro. The programme, compered gracefully by Nikitha of Grade 10, began with a prayer song by the students of Holy Rosary High School, followed by a cordial welcome from Varshitha of Grade 10.

The chief guest, in his address, paid tribute to the struggles of the freedom fighters and inspired the audience to carry forward their legacy through unity, hard work, and service to the nation. A spirited patriotic dance by the students of Holy Rosary High School brought the celebration to life.

Sushma of Grade 9 delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all who made the day memorable. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, a moment that united every heart in pride and gratitude for our beloved motherland.

As the flag fluttered against the clear August sky, its colours reminded us that freedom is not just a gift from the past, but a responsibility for the future — one we proudly carry forward.
