Moodbidri , July 13 : On 12th July 2025, Carmel School, Moodbidri organized an awareness session on the POSH and POCSO Acts, with Advocate K. Shubha as the chief guest and Teacher Riya D’mello as the Master of Ceremony. The session began with a detailed explanation of the POSH Act—officially known as the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013—which came into force on 9 December 2013. It aims to protect women from all forms of workplace sexual harassment, including non-verbal cues, and requires the formation of Internal Complaints Committees to ensure a respectful and safe environment for women. The speaker also shed light on the POCSO Act, enacted on 14 November 2012, which is designed to protect all children under 18, regardless of gender, from sexual abuse, assault, and exploitation. The Act emphasizes child-friendly procedures, mandatory reporting, and the establishment of special courts to deliver swift justice. The importance of teaching children about good and bad touch, appointing school counsellors, and forming dedicated committees was also highlighted. The session concluded with a Q&A round where participants’ doubts were addressed, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Teacher Reema Sequeira. The event was both informative and empowering, reinforcing the school’s commitment to ensuring safety and awareness for staff.
