March 1, 2026 : Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed a Jubilee Year dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, running from January 10, 2026 to January 10, 2027 — marking 800 years since the death of the Poor Man of Assisi.
Throughout the year, pilgrims will be invited to rediscover Francis’ timeless message of peace, fraternity, forgiveness, and care for creation, with special celebrations centered at the Porziuncola in Santa Maria degli Angeli — the heart of the “Pardon of Assisi.”
From a plenary indulgence granted to pilgrims, to youth gatherings with Pope Leo XIV on August 6, an interreligious day of prayer for peace, and conferences reflecting on illness, suffering, and death in the light of Francis’ Canticle, Assisi will become what one friar calls a “capital of witnesses.”
And for those unable to travel, a new digital initiative — San Francesco Digitale — will allow the faithful around the world to participate virtually.
Eight centuries later, Saint Francis’ call remains urgent: slow down, stop for one another, and rediscover the peace that begins in the heart.
