Feb. 28, 2026 : At the edge of Mexico City, in a landfill known as El Bordo, families live among mountains of trash — without running water, electricity, or stability — searching each day for something to recycle, something to survive on.
But for the team at *Hope of the Poor*, this place is not forgotten. Founded by Craig Johring, who spent years building trust with street children trapped in addiction, the mission is simple: love them, believe in them, and help them find a way out through education, work, and faith.
Today, more than 120 families have been helped, over 250 homeless people are served daily, and many former street children — once addicted and hopeless — now lead outreach themselves. As Craig says, “I think that people change when they're believed in.”
In this powerful report, EWTN follows the mission from the landfills of Mexico to a meeting with Pope Leo XIV in Rome — and witness how the Gospel transforms lives when it is lived among the poor.
