In the Ukrainian city of Bucha—the site of a brutal 2022 massacre during Russia’s occupation—scars still remain, even as the city rebuilds. Father Andrii recalls the harrowing process of exhuming and identifying the bodies, many burned or left to decay in the streets. Despite the horrors he witnessed, his faith endured—strengthened, he says, by the compassion of those who came to help. Father Andrii shares what is needed in the Church, especially now, and reflects on what the Church must do in the face of evil: name it for what it is.
