As tensions rise over U.S. immigration enforcement, Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso met with Pope Leo XIV and said he delivered letters and videos from immigrants fearing deportation. The Pope was reportedly moved and “visibly emotional” by their stories. During the private audience, Bishop Seitz — chair of the USCCB Committee on Migration — spoke about the root causes and crises that drive migration and emphasized the need to remain focused on the dignity of the human person. The private audience also came just as Pope Leo XIV addressed the global reality and plight of immigrants in his apostolic exhortation Dilexi Te.
