Today marks the anniversary of the dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome and the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Snows. Rose petals cascade from the ceiling of the basilica to recreate what tradition tells us happened 17 centuries ago—a miracle that led to the construction of the first Marian shrine in the West. The event draws pilgrims and tourists from around the world, featuring Mass and a reenactment of the miracle. The Coadjutor Archpriest of the Basilica of St. Mary Major highlights the basilica’s significance, especially as the resting place of Pope Francis, which attracts many visitors paying tribute to his legacy. The celebration continues with evening vespers and a historical reenactment dedicated “to the Supreme Pontiff Leo XIV, to the memory of Pope Francis, and to world peace.” EWTN Vatican Correspondent Valentina Di Donato has more.
