On Sunday, Pope Leo XIV will take possession of the Cathedral Church of Rome, the Basilica of St. John Lateran. In keeping with tradition, the Holy Father also visits the three other major papal basilicas in Rome. His inaugural Mass was held at St. Peter’s Basilica, and earlier this week, he visited St. Paul Outside the Walls, home to the tomb of the Apostle Paul. He will also visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where he will entrust his mission to the Virgin Mary at the icon of Salus Populi Romani, in a rite that dates back to the 14th century. At each stop, the pope continues a centuries-old tradition of prayer, humility, and connection to the roots of the Catholic faith. EWTN Vatican journalist Valentina Di Donato has more.
