Pope Francis will be laid to rest in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, instead of the Vatican Grottoes like most popes, honoring his personal wish. He will be buried near a special image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mary Salus Populi Romani, which he often visited during his papacy. It was also the first place he visited the morning after being elected pope. Faithful from around the world have gathered at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major to pray for his soul, reflecting on his legacy and Marian devotion. Cardinal Baldassare Reina led the rosary, inviting mourners to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her intercession to transform pain into hope. EWTN Vatican journalist Valentina Di Donato reports from Rome.
