The International Women’s Day was celebrated at St Joseph’s Church Sagar on March 8, 2015 by the Women’s Commission of the Parish.

The programme was inaugurated by Honourable Judge C. D Prakash, of Sagara Court. In his inaugural speech Honourable Judge said “Elders advice and guidance comes first then to the court and Police” because elders advice always unites the family bound where as civil authority breaks the healthy relationship in the family. Rev. Fr Venus Praveen, the parish priest of Sagar presided over the programme.

The theme of the programme was to bring awareness of law in women. The inauguration was done in a unique way that is by pouring oil to the already lightened lamp which symbolizes the little knowledge of law in every one of us, but the practicality of the law requires pure knowledge by the civil authority.

Resource persons enlightened the women about their rights and equality between women and men before law. Mrs. Lalitamma - President of City Corporation Sagar spoke on harassment of women in modern India and women’s response to it.

Mrs. Mamatha Gomes mastered the ceremony, Mrs Magdalena - President of Women Commission welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Sylvia Gomes thanked everyone.
