March 3, 2026 : As the conflict in Iran continues to escalate, Catholic leaders are responding with calls for peace.
In his Sunday Angelus, Pope Leo XIV addressed the situation just hours after the strikes, sharing his “deep concern” for the situation in the Middle East.
Archbishop Paul Coakley, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, echoed the Pope’s words.
EWTN News Vice President, Dr. Matthew Bunson, explained the Church’s teaching on war, including the presence of a just authority declaring the conflict, the justice of the cause, and the intentionality behind going to war.
