Feb. 28, 2026 : After days of prayer, silence, and reflection, the Lenten spiritual exercises for Pope Leo XIV, the Cardinals, and senior members of the Roman Curia have concluded at the Vatican. Held during the first full week of Lent, the private retreat served as a period of spiritual renewal and reflection for Church leadership.
At the conclusion of a week of Spiritual Exercises on Friday, Pope Leo XIV offered words of gratitude and reflection, drawing together the themes that marked the Lenten retreat preached by Bishop Erik Varden.
Following a week of silence, meditation, and prayer, the Vatican now returns to its public mission—carrying forward the insights and spiritual fruits of a retreat centered on truth, humility, and hope.
