Feb. 26, 2026 : The Vatican has announced details of Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming apostolic trips to Europe and Africa.
Pope's first visit will take place on March 28, when he will travel to the small country of Monaco, becoming the first pontiff to visit the country.
From 6 to 12 June , Pope Leo will visit Spain, first the capital Madrid and then Barcelona, where he will inaugurate the newest and tallest tower of the Sagrada Familia, the monumental basilica.
However, the most ambitious trip will occur in April, when Pope Leo will visit African countries from April 13–23. The Holy Father’s 11-day apostolic journey will take him to four African countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.
Leo XIV is the first pope in modern history with firsthand knowledge of Africa. Unlike his predecessors, he has already been to Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern, and Central Africa in person.
Fr. Don Bosco Onyalla, founding editor-in-chief of ACI Africa, joins EWTN to share what this extensive trip means to the faithful in Africa and the significance of the relationship between Africa and the Papacy.
