Feb. 23, 2026 : Pope Leo XIV visited the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the neighbourhood of Castro Pretorio in Rome, close to the Termini train station. The visit marked his second Lenten stop at a parish in his diocese, underscoring his desire to remain close to the faithful.
The pope met the parish community and celebrated Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In his homily, the pope invited the faithful to be “the yeast of the Gospel in the dough" of an area marked by many difficulties.
After celebrating the Mass, the pope met with members of the community founded by Saint John Bosco, to whom the parish is entrusted, expressing appreciation for their service towards young people, especially foreigners.
Before the Mass, Pope Leo visited the “Don Bosco's room” in the Church. And before returning to the Vatican, he paused in prayer before the Tabernacle. They served as the Saint's residence during his 20th and final trip to Rome, from April 30 to May 18, 1887.
During his visit, the Pope reminded the faithful that this parish is an invitation “to be a sign of closeness and charity” in communities where a “source of hope” is greatly needed.
