At Castel Gandolfo on 1st October 2025, Pope Leo XIV joined religious leaders, scientists, and global voices—including actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger—at the "Raising Hope for Climate Justice" event, marking the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis' encyclical on care for creation.

In his address, Pope Leo called for stronger pressure on governments and encouraged citizens to play an active role in political decision-making. “Only then,” he said, “will it be possible to mitigate the damage done to the environment.”

Schwarzenegger inspired attendees with a call to "terminate pollution" and leave the planet better than we inherited it.

The Vatican aims to reach "zero emissions" by 2050—a goal it says is not just a dream, but an achievable reality.

The event concluded with Pope Leo blessing a block of glacial ice from Greenland, reminding all that, “We cannot love God, whom we cannot see, while despising His creatures,” he said.
